#12: Favors Galore!

So if you've talked to me for any stretch of time longer then 10 minutes, you will know that I've got quite the pricey sense of taste. However, I am a college student which means my bank account is usually lackluster on most days. So how do I go about combating this while trying to fill the void of "gimme gimme gimme?" 3 little letters: DIY. (Or Do It Yourself if I really have to spell it out for you...)

You want to give your wedding guests something special to remember your special day by, but you've alrady taken daddy to the cleaners for the rest of your wedding expenses...so what do you do? Here are some of my favorite DIY wedding favors that not only are nice on the wallet, but pretty cute too!

1. Bright Bulbs!

Not only are these little cuties very fitting for any summer or spring wedding, but they're something you can plan for and start building months in advance. First step, order the bulbs. You can usually find bulbs out of season, but be warned, color selection will be limited. Now you have your bulbs (in a fantastic matching-your-wedding color), but your big day isn’t for several months? Problem solved: Freezer. Throw those bad bulbs in the freezer in indivual bags and let them be. Next step, tea light holders for the base and just enough soil/rocks/etc. to cover the roots. For this particular project, they’ve gone above and beyond to design paper tulips to give guest a little preview of what they’re flowers will eventually look like—in my eyes, it’s a little over the top. But hey, if you’ve got the time (and patience!), go for it! Depending on your bulb choice, these gifts could be done for under $6 a piece!

2. Napkin with Plant Seed!

What I love, love, LOVE about this idea is you get 2 for one—cute plate settings AND a favor! This is about as simple as it gets, that is if you have access to a sewing machine. Purchase your favorite seedlings, for me it’d have to be daffodil seeds, but whatever strikes your fancy. Most will come in individual baggies, like those seen, and I really like the cloth bag on fancy napkins. Spend a little time in good old Microsoft Word and whip up some nametags. Sew on baggies, place on napkins, and you’re good to go! Frugalness never looked so cute!

3. Blossom Boxes!

Continuing with the floral theme is what could be my favorite favor ever! With on simple tool, you have endless possibilities to what you can make for your day! You’ve got a couple options for what exactly to buy. But I like to go with a simple paper punch.

Paper Punches!

You can buy different colored and texture paper to add variety and the creations are limitless! Pair your cute creations with an ecofriendly-recycled paper box (from places like www.nashvillewraps.com) and you’ve got yourself a great little keepsake for all your guests. And again, for PENNIES!
